discovery 1 build

#1 Post by Pieter_Macdonald » Wed Mar 11, 2020 10:25 pm

I have recently acquired 2 discovery 1's from my dad, one with a v8 (the green one) and the other with a 300 tdi and 5 speed r380 transmission with a salvage title (the blue one). I plan to convert the green one to a 300 tdi with the parts from the other truck.

So far I have removed both motors and torn the interior out of the green truck as I plan on repainting it. Unfortunately, but not surprisingly I have also discovered (no pun intended) :D quite a bit of rust that will need to be repaired before I put in the new motor.

Some fun but unnecessary things I've done are put the steel wheels on and start on a stainless steel raised air intake.

I will add to this forum as progress continues.

I have found more rust in various places which I'm not too happy about, but I've seen worse so I think I got lucky.

There are other rust holes as well but I don't have photos of them.

I have now started the task of rust repair. I have taken out the drivers-side inner fender by drilling out many spot welds and peeling away tons of seem sealer Intel it came out. I then made a cardboard template and made a new piece out of fresh metal.
