LT230 lube amount..

#1 Post by JD » Tue Aug 01, 2006 12:14 am

Was filling up the LT230 with the proscribed amount of gear oil... Tcase took all the oil, and none dripped out the fill hole up near the parking brake.

Question is: Is the amount of gear oil the book says to use correct? or should the gear oil be right up to the top of the filler hole as in a North American truck?

As always

I am not intimately familiar with the LT230 but unless there is a specific level plug in addition to the filler plug then, assuming that the vehicle is on level ground, you need to continue adding oil until it starts to run out the filler.

John,

That is my gut feel... but that would just about fill the 230 to the top. Leaves little room for expansion/breathing.. ?? else? One heck of a lot of oil that would be. Wish I could be sure.

I have checked a manual and on the LT230 transfer case the filler/level plug are one and the same. Oil needs to be added until it starts to run out this hole.
