Protection btwn galvanized capping and painted panels?

#1 Post by steveep » Mon Dec 18, 2023 7:49 pm

I've just repainted my panels and had my capping re-galvanized. So, just wondering whether anyone ever puts anything between the two to protect the paint and seal better?

I was thinking of 3M protective tape, but maybe that's overkill and it doesn't matter if the paint underneath the capping is protected? //uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202312 ... fff2ed.jpg

Land Rover never worried about it! I think it’ll be fine if everything is painted.

I put a strip of wide plastic tape under mine, just to be sure. It riveted on with no problems. Also put it on the galvanized supports under the tub. Hopefully I will never have to take it apart again!

Thanks for the reply, Glenn!

I did end up purchasing some wide "corrosion protection" tape (meant for wrapping metal pipes that are buried in the ground) that I think I'll give a go in the same way.
