LEDs

#1 Post by obalme » Wed Apr 12, 2017 8:29 pm

Just installed new LED turn signals, brake lights, parking lights and a Number plate light. They look really nice!

(Excuse the rusted rear crossmember)

I had a lot of trouble installing them, I had to make new connections since they were meant for a newer truck and I spent quite a while thinking they were duds until I checked my grounds and tested them with a 9v battery. I had an issue where both turn signals came on at the same time, but I had read somewhere else that if you removed the bulb in the dash it fixed the problem. (It did fix the problem) I also read that if you replace the bulb in the dash with a LED it fixes the problem, does anyone know where I can find one?

Man, they look great. Fill us in on which model of truck these are for.

I got them off of paddock spares, they're the WIPAC ones who I think are the maker of the normal Defender lights.

They also have ones with clear lenses but I prefer the standard look on my truck.
I forgot to mention that I also had to drill two new holes for each light, other trucks may vary.

The low cost solution is to fit load resistors. You should be able to get those at an auto parts store. Fixing the problem at the dash indicator is fairly complicated. See post 8 here: https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/ ... it.273205/ for how that would be achieved.

How many load resistors will I need, one at each light or one for each side? If I did that, would I be able to just put the bulb in the dash back in?

One on each side is all that will be needed and then the bulb can go back in.

I just saw that RDX makes a plug and play solution. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RDX-Earth-Fix ... 361500fb5c
