North Island Rover Trip - Pictures and Wrap-up!
4 days, 4 defenders, over 1200 kilometers, rain, snow, mud, gravel, more rain, caves, beaches, quarries, rattle-trap forklifts and float-planes, locomotives, huge A-Frames in the middle of no where and world-class samosas at the end of the road, it was a good trip! Thanks to everyone for coming out and making it a memorable adventure, a fun bunch to travel with for sure. Here's a picture to prove we did it:

Re: North Island Rover Trip - Springbreak
sounds fun! We were planning on doing this tour in the summer in the ambulance for a family camp trip. Might be a good time to scout out some spots. We're busy on the 23rd so may just join for the beginning portion.
Highway speed in the ambulance is 80km on the flat....maybe the LR3 for this trip if we're not camping.

BUMP
New details and itinerary posted in the top message - looking for people to come along, non-rovers are welcome but some off-road capability will be necessary (4X4 AWD type vehicle)

Re: North Island Rover Trip - Springbreak UPDATED... again
Hey everyone. I'm not doing a very good job as the trip planner  .... looking at my calendar I realized that my earlier posts were for March 20th to 24th instead of the 13th to the 17th which I changed in an edit. For those who have expressed an interest in the trip (and anyone else thinking of going) are you willing to go on the 20-24 dates? It would still be a Sunday to Thursday trip, just one week later. Please email me [email protected], reply post or PM. Camping is a possibility as there are campgrounds near Port Hardy and Gold River for those of you who are so inclined. I'll probably still use the hotel option as my winter camp gear is long gone. Sorry for any confusion. Still looks like it will be a fun trip.
Regards, Rob

I'm thinking of going too. It'll have to be in a Ford. If I have an opportunity to work I won't be going.

Hi Rob,
Sounds like fun but I'll have to pass on this one as it's a work week...
If you guys are passing through Parksville on the Sunday and fancy a cuppa and some tire kicking for an hour or so you're more than welcome to come and see the progress on the 2A project.
I might even throw in some hob nobs!
Cheers
Dave

Re: North Island Rover Trip - Springbreak UPDATED
Emails have been sent to all the participants with the itinerary and hotel recommendations. One week to go, if there is anyone else interested in attending please PM me or email [email protected] Looks like it will be an interesting trip, lots to see along the way. Some rough roads and possibly some snow if we can make it up to Mount Cain so most rovers should do fine for this trip, others vehicles with similar all-road capabilities are also welcome.
Regards, Rob

Indeed, a great run.
Port Hardy, Cape Scott, Gold River, Tahsis, Strathcona!
4 Defenders!
Great company and stories!
Weather... Well, typical and in tune with the surroundings!
Well planned Rob!
And we even made the 3pm sailing back to Canada!
Eric and Sue.
