Thanksgiving Run
Victor, Rob, Greg ...
Is anyone up for a run either on Thanksgiving weekend or during the following week days?
I have the week off and would love to get out of the house.

Hi Guys
We will try to get a Thanksgiving run in some where. Also before that a pub night meet down in Victoria one of these upcoming Friday evenings would be nice. Maybe a different Pub this time just for variety?

Re: Thanksgiving Run
So, looks like Saturday October 10th is the better day for most. I'm suggesting we look at the roads behind Ladysmith. There is the Mount Hall haul road that would make for a decent trip, lots of nice look out and scenery. that I was on last winter but got turned back by deep snow, should be a no-scratch trip as it is all logging roads (and some active logging in the area). There is also the dam at Holland Lake that is a nice spot to visit along the way. The Mount Hall road also branches towards Mount Benson but I think it is tank-trapped along the way so we probably won't make it to Copper Canyon so we'll likely have to back-track to get out. I am hearing that the gate behind Ladysmith is open but is getting shut around 3PM on some days so we would be best if we made it an early day. I recommend that we meet at the MacDonalds in Coronation Mall (south side of Ladysmith) with plans to depart from there at 0900. Bring the usual, a lunch, liquids, whatever tools or spares you might need, camera, road maps, etc. So, Whose in?
Regards, Rob

Re: Thanksgiving Run
Hi Rob
Sounds good to me. Marg and I will be coming in the Dormobile. Dave and Evie Frisby will also be coming in their Range rover.
Since it is just the start of the Thanksgiving weekend Turkey sandwiches might be in short supply but I suggest we all have a nice lunch break together anyway at one of the scenic lookouts. So bring lawn chairs also.
See you on Saturday the 10th for a 9:00 am. sharp departure from the MacDonalds in the mall. The cross road is North Davis road or just Davis road and there is a set of traffic lights just before the mall when traviling north.

Re: Thanksgiving Run
Hi Guys
This is sounding very good, maybe we will set a record for the most rovers ever on one of our fall drives. Although I think we had 12 or so of us go up to the old Green mountain ski hill in October 7 years ago.
Anybody else coming? Seems like a few of the regulars have not chimed in yet.
We will try to have the safety meeting around 8:45 so we can get going by 9:00. Just in case we have to be out of the area by 3:00.
(Yes we have to have a safety meeting there are still rules to follow on these drives.) The drives seem to run smoother when we do this and no one has got lost yet...... Not even the Jeeps that try to follow us.
If you have a small hand held family radio bring that along also as those are the ones we tend to use, although CBs and Hams are also used by a few of the trucks.
See you on the 10th at McDonalds.

I'm going to try to make it also from Vancouver. Any Recommendations for lodging in the area? Hotel or B&B?

Re: Thanksgiving Run
Sounds like we will have a good-sized group! The roads and areas we will be exploring are all-weather so we will go rain or shine. My suggestions for local accommodations would be the Best Western hotel in Chemainus or the Kiwi Cove B&B in Ladysmith.
Looking forward to seeing you all there!

Re: Thanksgiving Run
Well, it was windy, rainy, foggy and wet... but we had some fun. 8 trucks in all, all coilers (2 RRCs, D1, D2, P38, D90, D110) except for Greg and his trusty 109 :bounce: We went off into the hills behind Ladysmith, couldn't get up the Mount Hall haul road due to closed gates but still explored a lot of interesting trails and splashed through some big puddles! Here's a link to a few pics (with apologies for the blurry images, foggy and rainy windshield).

Re: Thanksgiving Run
Hi Rob
Thanks for the pictures. Nice one of Gregs Rock just sitting there so innocently beside the 109.
It was a good day out, maybe a little bit damp but still good. I am all for trying it again on a sunny day so we could maybe see the views that we know are there.
I did check on Google earth and we were very very close to getting throught to the alternative exit we were aiming for.
Talk with you later. Victor
