300 TDI power steering delete

#1 Post by swamijake » Mon Aug 10, 2015 1:16 pm

I bought a 97 discovery 300tdi which I am going to put in my 110 to replace the current 2.5 NAD. I'd like to delete the power steering pump but I'm unsure how to do this with the serpentine setup.

Looking at it, I have three options that I can see:

1. I could probably just take it off and find a shorter belt , but then the belt wouldn't get a great wrap around the alternator or the crank pulley.

2. I could have a hose made to feed the output of the pump back to a reservoir and just have it cycle the fluid

3. I could take the pump apart, remove the vanes or balls, pack it with grease and close up the inlet and outlet

Anyone with any experience with this?

Just to clarify, I don't have the vehicle it came from so do not have the power steering box, nor do I intend to find one. I'm fine with manual steering and prefer to have fewer things to go wrong.
