Good deal or ? LR3

#1 Post by franko » Sun Jul 12, 2015 9:39 pm

For all you LR3 owners, thinking about selling our Jeep Liberty diesel and join in the club.
We need more room with the growing family.

Anyone know if the V6 has enough power?

And how hard is it to change out this air compressor?

I'd go with the V8 - I don't think you will see any significant fuel savings for the loss of power in this heavy vehicle with a V6. I believe the V6 is a Ford engine used in the Explorer, V8 is a Jag and is a great reliable runner.

Although I am not handy myself at this sort of thing, the air compressor replacement sounds pretty straight forward and is a common item.

The AMK is a popular choice: https://www.arnottindustries.com/blog/p ... lable.html

Good luck!

I agree with Stewart.

From what I read, the fuel economy differences are negligible. V8.

Thanks guys, I have read though that with the V6 you get the 17inch wheels.
Also some guys are saying that the V6 is a bullet proof motor.
Anyway all good info.

My understanding is that North American V6s did not get the 17" wheels. I thought that was on European models only, but could be wrong. You just need to change the rotors and caliper mounts to clear the smaller rims. Calipers and pads are the same.

Franko,

the compressor takes 30 minutes to change out and is very easy. plan on $1200 for the new AMK compressor and about $120 to reprogram it for the new design at the dealer. I can help you with the programming with my software IIDtool to save you a few bucks but it will cost you that in gas to get together since I am a little ways away from you. you may find cheaper deals of around 8-900 for compressors but some do not come with the mounting bracket and some do not come with the soundproofing. after a lot of research I just bought mine from the dealer in vic.

email me and I can run you through all the issues to look for that I have found on my truck so far.

Also look at LR3's on Kijiji in Alberta. on average, a truck that is selling for 12k in BC is selling for 7-9k in alberta with the same issues.

look for repair receipts for suspension, steering, and control arm components from the seller.

Lots of room makes a good family vehicle I think, we were in the same boat.I looked at some before getting a l322 RR. At least I can drive a rover while my IIA project continues at a snail pace.

Stick with a BC vehicle. The difference in pricing accounts for the harder life vehicles have in the prairies from the cold and the salt. Vehicles as advertised from BC sell for a premium on the prairies!
I had many a vehicle rust out despite pampering...including our Disco II.

I agree the vehicle history and receipts are prime importance for these trucks. I'm not sure what the difference in power is between the v6 and v8 but if your not towing or wheeling off piste it might not make much difference.

We own a 2006 v6 SE i only wanted the V6 SE less computers and more off road spec. The 17 inch wheels you have a better selection on bigger tires. Plus the VS is a ford engine easy to service at any quick lane.
We have the lr3 now for almost 3 year no issues just a great car. We live up North no land rover dealers just old school mechanics no problem getting it serviced plus we run it on 87 octane its a ford engine:)

And we do not need a v8 for more power. If i need power i get in my jaguar xkr:)

On the advise of my Indy, I use 87 in my V8 with the understanding that as a low compression engine it wouldn't matter us sing a higher octane fuel but I would be very interested in feedback on the accuracy of that advise.... :?
