Getting S3 88 from Penticton to Victoria
All,
I'm picking up a running/ driving S3 88 from near Penticton, but I'm having problems getting shipping to Vancouver Island (in my price range, which = as little as possible).
"Roddy" has just tootled around a farm for the past twenty years, but has been driven. If I try to drive him, is there anyone I can call for assistance if he breaks?
Alternatively, is there anyone with a car trailer and truck I can pay to get Roddy over the mountains and as close to the Tsawwassen ferry as possible?
Thank,
David.

Haulage from the Okanagan to Vancouver is expensive!davran wrote:If I try to drive him, is there anyone I can call for assistance if he breaks?
Attempt to drive it, but join BCAA as a Premier member at least 48 hours before you collect it? $144 and includes 2 tows up to 320km...
Get it checked over and serviced before you try...if you don't want to do it yourself, Mike and Bronwen in Kelowna will sort you out... http://www.mikesbritish.com/
The long hill up the Connector to Brenda Mines is brutal on Land Rovers.....

If you have something to pull it with you could get a u-haul trailer.. either flat bed or just the 'car dolly' type. Its not too expensive that way probably 150 to 300 depending on the option you go with. Everything else I looked at was absurdly expensive.
I'm also trying to sort out moving a land rover. 109 from near mission to comox valley, Vancouver island. U haul was the best I could come up with.

When I brought my two Series 1's over from the island to North Van, I used a towing company and barged it across then another towing firm to deliver.
Believe it was a lot cheaper than BC Ferries...but I had 2 trucks to deal with.

Re: Getting S3 88 from Penticton to Victoria
Hi David,
as suggested by others, I have used the Uhaul auto transport trailer to take a '74 88 from Vancouver to Kelowna towing behind a Dodge Dakota. Looks like a one way rental from Penticton to Ladner would run you about $120 plus taxes, so just a matter of figuring out a tow vehicle....you would need something that could tow Class III (5000 lbs), you won't need a brake controller since these trailers have integral hydraulic surge brakes on the hitch. Their site also lists the 2-wheel tow dolly as useable, for $89, but in that scenario you might want to disconnect the rear driveshaft.
Alternately, last year I was looking for flatbed trailer rental options to fetch a dismantled 88 from Keremeos back to Langley, there's a local place (Sunrise) that rents out of Abbottsford and Cloverdale and they would have been about $100 per day for a 16 foot double axle with electric brakes, per day - other than the additional need for a brake controller, this would have similar tow vehicle requirements.
Do you have access to something you can tow with?

In years past I have rented both the car hauler and a pick up truck from Uhaul to move LR's, no problems, they even hook it all up before I got there however the only place on the lower mainland I could even get a trailer was North Van.

Hi,
I have a need to get a car off the island and could use some help with the cost of taking an empty truck/trailer to the island. Can you get to Langley from Penticton? Or; maybe I could come to Penticton and pick up your truck?
Call me 604 465 5484 to discuss.

Re: Getting S3 88 from Penticton to Victoria
I found out that is cheaper for me to rent a Uhaul locally and pull it empty across the ferry, load it and bring it home full than it is for me to rent it on the mainland and take it across. Locally it only costs 65$ for a 24 hour rental
