First post on the forum so.. Hi everybody!
I'm looking at a Defender (with a Series 2a Body) that has had an Engine Swap to an Isuzu 2.8 Turbo Diesel. I've read up a bit on the engine and it seems solid enough but I cant find any info about parts availability. Does anyone know anything about this engine and what its like to get parts?
Isuzu 2.8 Turbo Diesel parts availability ?

If you are worried about the difficulty in finding parts, then owning a Defender/Series of any type is probably not your thing. As to that specific engine, you are better off looking at some Isuzu specific forums or UK based LR forums.
Why does the truck have a Series body on a Defender? Seems a strange thing to do.

It does sound like a bit of a Franken-truck.
That said, I could see the benefit of a 2a on a Defender body (more modern systems, coil springs, etc,) with the classic look.
And that is a popular engine for re-engined Defenders, especially in places like Australia and Malaysia, since it came in the Trooper. It had a good reputation, and parts over there were cheap.
It could be great, it could be horrible, but either way I don' t think the availability of engine parts is the biggest thing you should be looking at...

I have a Range rover with that engine and have been driving it for the last five years approx. 50,000 miles. I haven't bought any parts for it yet, just changed the oil and filters. Not even adjusted anything. I'm very happy with it's performance.

Thanks guys!
Great input! Yeah it very well could be a bit of a frankentruck, so I'm going into it very carefully. I've been tempted by the defenders for a while now but I really do LOVE the series vehicles. I've got to get the approval from the wife so modern things like better suspension, power steering, disc brakes etc etc will go a long way to smoothing that conversation out. Additionally it will be a daily driver so the 'charm' of an old series truck may wear off on a day in day out basis.
I'll keep you all posted if anything develops from this. In the mean time I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for any good deals on 109s or 110s
