Rover heading East
Posted: Tue Jul 02, 2013 10:00 pm
Driving the Defender to Manitoba for a farm wedding with my daughter Shayla.
Left on Saturday, camped at Glacier Ntl Park, hot but no issues up the coquihalla,
Sunday drive up to Jasper...Rover running great, getting hotter...temprature that is...camped just outside Jasper.
Canada Day saw us heading east, towards Edmonton and onwards...
Around 6:30pm was making good time on the "flats" averaging 100-120, when we started to smell diesel fuel, so pulled into a liitle town truckstop, called Innisfree, Albert about 2hours east of Edmonton.
Popped the hood and immediately noticed the forward injector line spewing fuel at the lower nut. Shut it off and pulled the injector line, noticing the the flare had snapped inside the nut....damn.....
Now this had happened to another one of my rear lines last year, and although i repaird the offending line, never got around to changing them all as i should have
Back to yesterday in 37c weather with a broken truck....hmmmm...what to do.
I called Don and he said that he didnt have any but would help with shipping if i could find them. Next I called Kris who just as it happens was flying up to Edmonton and would bring a replacement, rent a car and i would be up and running by afternoon...great...but i wanted to make one more call before putting Kris through all that for me.
I called Norman (we did the Canol together in 2009)who lives in Sherwood Park' and although he couldnt help me, he knew David L. was rebuilding a 300Tdi, so i called him, explained my dilema and he was happy to give me the parts, but would...but couldnt drive them out to me due to Canada Day libations....but he knew the Bill Inch might be able help and would give hime a call and see if if would run the parts to me.
A couple of more calls and the next thing I know i have an Rover-Angel making a 4hour round trip to save my sorry butt.
Believe it or not...within 4.5 hours of having a part completely fail, the part was found, delvery coordination was succesful, and the offending item sucessfully reinstalled...all on Canada Day! :wav:
A MONSTER shout out to the Alberta three musketeers for helping us out on our journey...make me proud to drive a Land Rover  Hope i can return the favour some day.
PS. I bet a full size late model, Ford, Chevy or Dodge couldnt have done the deed any quicker on a holiday.
Pss. Sitting in Yorkton...will arrive at destination tomorrow!
