Driving the Defender to Manitoba for a farm wedding with my daughter Shayla.
Left on Saturday, camped at Glacier Ntl Park, hot but no issues up the coquihalla,
Sunday drive up to Jasper...Rover running great, getting hotter...temprature that is...camped just outside Jasper.
Canada Day saw us heading east, towards Edmonton and onwards...
Around 6:30pm was making good time on the "flats" averaging 100-120, when we started to smell diesel fuel, so pulled into a liitle town truckstop, called Innisfree, Albert about 2hours east of Edmonton.
Popped the hood and immediately noticed the forward injector line spewing fuel at the lower nut. Shut it off and pulled the injector line, noticing the the flare had snapped inside the nut....damn.....
Now this had happened to another one of my rear lines last year, and although i repaird the offending line, never got around to changing them all as i should have
Back to yesterday in 37c weather with a broken truck....hmmmm...what to do.
I called Don and he said that he didnt have any but would help with shipping if i could find them. Next I called Kris who just as it happens was flying up to Edmonton and would bring a replacement, rent a car and i would be up and running by afternoon...great...but i wanted to make one more call before putting Kris through all that for me.
I called Norman (we did the Canol together in 2009)who lives in Sherwood Park' and although he couldnt help me, he knew David L. was rebuilding a 300Tdi, so i called him, explained my dilema and he was happy to give me the parts, but would...but couldnt drive them out to me due to Canada Day libations....but he knew the Bill Inch might be able help and would give hime a call and see if if would run the parts to me.
A couple of more calls and the next thing I know i have an Rover-Angel making a 4hour round trip to save my sorry butt.
Believe it or not...within 4.5 hours of having a part completely fail, the part was found, delvery coordination was succesful, and the offending item sucessfully reinstalled...all on Canada Day! :wav:
A MONSTER shout out to the Alberta three musketeers for helping us out on our journey...make me proud to drive a Land Rover  Hope i can return the favour some day.
PS. I bet a full size late model, Ford, Chevy or Dodge couldnt have done the deed any quicker on a holiday.
Pss. Sitting in Yorkton...will arrive at destination tomorrow!

Re: Rover heading East
Hey Dave,
Good to hear you are up and running again, that's quite the drive for a wedding!
I have never heard of the fuel line snapping at the flare, I guess that's another thing I should add to my "spares box". I believe they are different lengths so as long as the spare was the longest one if should be able to be made to fit?
Last weekend I had my alternator nut come loose and the alternator pulley fall off at 100 kph on highway 3 in Manning park, it took out both belts, a coolant hose and most of the thread on the alternator shaft! ........ Made for an interesting field repair, but still got me through the Whipsaw and back home!
Have fun at the wedding and a safe journey home,
Cheers,
Andy

Re: Rover heading East
Thats my second injector pipe that has failed at exactly the same way, snapped flair in the connecting nut. All replaced except for one....but i have that on board. First one snapped at the top, second at the pump fitting.
I will be ordering a spare set for the truck, whn i get home, as when one of these goes it a show stopper
Glad to hear you were able to bodge up a repair to get you home...going to start calling you the MacGyver of Land Rover field repairs.
Still travelling, Rocky Mountains tomorrow and some more camping. Rover has been great since the repair.
