personal trip to Barkerville, BC

#1 Post by radio_05 » Sat Jun 15, 2013 5:31 pm

Planning a trip with my father from Edmonton, to Barkerville, BC.

We will be there the first week of August, in my exmod Defender 90 FFR.

Any leads on good offroading or camping in the area?

Are there any supportive landy owners in the region who could assist if there's a breakdown?

Just before Barkerville is Wells. Between the two is a road that will take you to Yank's Peak and there is a snowmobile road from there that comes out (did once upon a time) close to Likely. Sorry, can't be more accurate than that. It was 14 years ago that I was on trail.

Land Rover dude in that country? I think Gerry might pipe in.

gerry here in PG .

i believe 4x4 access in the Wells area [ Yanks Peak , Two Sisters , Little Round Top , Big Round Top ] are closed to 4x4 access due to mucho damage over the years to the alpine meadows . i will have to confirm that as it has been a couple of years since i have been in that area . you should pop up to PG and visit [ PG is about 1 1/2 hour drive north of Quesnel ] ; could arrange a wheeling trip [ day trip or a camping over nighter ] .

I think we'll go through prince george, I'll give you a call when it gets a little closer.

Just getting the batus landy painted now, it had many layers that needed to be stripped.

The yanks road is open to the public, however, I've heard rumor's that a slide has made the road impassable to Likely, but those are unconfirmed by me... Sisters is open to public access as well. Both Roundtop mtn trails are CLOSED permanently to motorized travel.

Supposedly Yanks is closed to offroading due to some fools from Quesnel who ruined the wetlands and meadows there..

Two sisters is open for offroading, I ran out of time while there. This is a good time of year, it had been closed due to snow at the upper reaches, it seems.

Hope to return there, really nice area. Very worthwhile for a long weekend while the logging trucks are quiet.
