Wandering the isles if Canadian tire one day I came across the oil mentioned above. It is API GL4 rated for "non hypoid" transmission, differentials, hydraulic applications. So what's the cocensus? Is this stuff safe for our trucks? It's a lot cheaper than gear oil too!

Oh ya this is for a series 2a transmission. Its under gear oil on their iPhone app. The name is exactly what's on the label.

Oh TDH. You said MTH. TDH = Transmission Differential Hydraulic. It is the sort of thing marketed as an all in one for tractors and industrial equipment. You would have to look at the specs to see if the viscosity range is suitable for the Series box.

You don't want to use TDH in a landrover.
The last time I did something 'because it was cheap', it ended poorly.
It seems that some tractors use a single reservoir for transmission, differential, and hydraulic, so not the same as a landrover.
I've gone through my first three engine oil changes in only 1000k after rebuild, first was 1000k, next was like 1km, still pulling out lots soot and junk in the blackened oil, it's back to an oil color now, and should blacken when given a good run.
There are many affordable oils out there, I bought 20L of Shell Rotella 15W40 for only about $54 at Walmart, it also goes on sale at Canadian Tire for about the same.
I use cheap ATF in my LT77, again, for a short haul to flush out whatever was left in there.
