Hi All,
I just checked the fluid levels after our adventures on Saturday. The power steering fluid is down slightly (still well above minimum). I've got a 1997 Disco 1 V8 auto. Can it take the regular power steering fluid (say from Can tire or similar), or does it require something special?
Thanks!

Craig,
They are notorious for leaky power steering systems, just one of those quirky Land Rover things!
Check your manual for the right fluid, once you have confirmed the spec, typically you will be able to pick it up from Can Tire or Lordo. Buy a good known brand and try to match the color of the fluid you already have in there,

Yes. ATF Dextron II. If you are ever in really cold use, synthetic is nice to prevent the stiff steering when cold.

Re: Power steering fluid
Much thanks! I just got back from Can Tire and your advice gybes exactly with what their computer said. :D
Now I get to take the bottle BACK tomorrow. I already have the right ATF fluid. I just didn't know you could use it in the power steering too.
It's good to know it leaks. I put in a TINY bit too much, but it seems it will be self-correcting.

Re: Power steering fluid
If you over fill it will leak more. On my leaky power steering box I find that once it hits the correct level the leaking "subsides".
