I have a 19J turbo diesel in my 130 and I am looking to install a pyrometer to keep an eye on the exhaust gas temperature. I am looking for some advice regarding the probe location. I have seen one mounted on the exhaust exhaust pipe after the turbo but I have also heard someone mention taping into the turbo housing as an alternate location. I would appreciate hearing from others here on the forum regarding their insight and practical experience with pyrometer installs, particularly if you were dealing with a 19J. Also I am interested in hear what sort of temps people are reading on their 19Js under normal and heavy conditions.
Cheers, Rob

Re: Turbo Diesel Pyrometer advice
You need to measure before the turbo as the temperature drop across the turbo is variable. 700 C maximum should be OK, although I've never heard of anyone tuning up a 19J. Most are scared of them dying in stock form.
I would suggest a gauge from Auber, http://www.auberins.com/index.php?main_ ... caf84fe553 Great pricing. Having the maximum memory and alarm output is extremely helpful. They also sell a nice flashing buzzer to use as an alarm.
