Welding Expertise needed

#1 Post by Dave_F » Wed Dec 07, 2011 6:24 pm

Hi All,

As some of you are aware I am rebuilding a 1956 Series I 86". I have actually two trucks, one being the rebuild and the other a parts truck.

I am considering removing from the parts truck chassis sections (door posts, and 1 bulkhead outrigger) for the rebuild.

The problem is I am not a welder and would like to put a call out for an "expert" to help a fellow Roverlander. I am not looking for someone to actually do the welding, but rather someone to tell me either that this is feasible or not.

I live in North Vancouver....Deep Cove specifically. Payment would be a lunch or dinner at the local pub, the Raven...or coffee and donuts from world famous Honeys in the cove...if it is the morning.

I am at the point where this is holding me up so anyone willing to Volunteer their expertise would be greatly appreciated.

PM me if you can help me out.

Cheers,

Dave Fraser

Give Barry a call. If he doesn't reply here (I don't know how often he is on this site) give Don McD. a call, he will have Barry's number.

Dave, I am in Lynn Valley and have a few years of welding experience. I can come over for a chat about welding if you like. You can give me a call at 778-772-3245

Hi Dave,

I'm going to be doing the same thing on my spare frame. Do you have a welding machine? Any small mig machine should do the job nicely. Only tricky issues are make sure the metal is clean and free from rust. Then use lots of tacks as the metal isn't all that thick and will try to warp as it cools.

I've been hobby welding for a long time. I'm happy to come help. Also, I still have spare axles if you need them.

Jake
