EAS stuck in high high 1995 RRC

#1 Post by rezdiver » Sun Dec 07, 2008 6:06 pm

1995 Range Rover Classic canada model.
EAS stuck in high high.

driving down the highway around 110km/h sudden hesitation/stall, a couple of times.but never actually shut down. took the offramp and slowed down, kept running, a few more hesitations. EAS moved to extreme high and is staying there, will not lower.
can hear pump running, over pressure releasing.
things tried:
-tapping all height sensors,
-disconnecting battery
-pressing the buttons
-cleaned battery terminals
-turning truck on off a few times
-let it sit with battery connected and disconnected
-checking all door light switches

no issues prior to this, highway mode worked fine, all other modes woorked fine

issues known before this happened:
-rear calipers not working
-ABS lights and check work fine
-daytime running lights flicker on off if lights are not turned on??????

is the engine hesitation/cutout somehow related to the EAS?????

any pointers?
cheers,
Reza

You need a gremlin trap, one that is designed for electrics.
I had a 1990 rangie that the wipers came on when I braked and indicated left. Figure that one out? I parted the car out.
But good luck and a computer diagnosis sounds in order.

EAS stuck in high ...

Hi,

I would suggest taking your RRC into the shop to get the computor plugged in and check for fault codes. This will normally identify a sensor fault and could save you $$$ compared to trying to fault find yourself.

You dont mention if there is a EAS warning light that came on?
Here is a link, read through it has lots of good info....

If it comes down to needing a complete overhaul of the EAS system, many EAS owners opt to convert to standard coil springs.

Good luck

EAS light came on flashing a few times then just stayed on, also the raise button light flashes and stays on at the same time. if i press the down button or trailer mode button then all the lights go off but the truck willl not move at all up or down. and after a minute or so the cyle of lights continue.
she seems to be self leveling herself at this ride height. compressor is running and overpressure valve blowing off. I took her for a drive to see if she would lower or reset at a higher speed (as it should at over 60km/h) but nothing and i dont want to drive for too long too fast at this height.

will try and get a diagnosis, now who has a tool for this beast in Courtenay. I doubt anyone up here has one.
Now I have to wait for the price of scrap aluminium to go back up before i can get any money for her.LOL

I know all about the gremlins, this is my 4th rangie and the 2nd that is air suspension. i thought i wouldtry my luck but after 4 days of owning it i am a little upset.

I like the air and dont think i will be converting to coils. the bags seem to be in good shape with 2 newer ones up front. if i decide to change anything i will just manually bypass the EAS computer and put in a manual setup with isolation valves for pumping and locking the air bags at different heights.

I am so confused,
went outside this morning and started her up. and i just sadly stared at her lower herself to her bumpstops when i closed the door. but then i just pressed the up button and there sheis back at normal height like nothing ever happened.

A rangie is like your big dog with a mind of its own that can be great all day but decide to just lay down on the ground on her leash and not move and you cant do anythjing about it because its too big to move.

alternator is putting out 13.9volt and battery is at 12.85volts when engine is off.

i noticed the daytime running lights are flickering on and off every once in a while, any idea where the wiring and relay is for the daytime running lights?

the grounds looked ok.

the EAS seems to work ok at the moment but i am getting lots of hesitation and can note it on the rpm guage when driving. it idles very well. and starts everytime.

took the alternator and it checked out ok. 14.2volts on the bench but i am only reading 13.94 volts on my meter on the truck. it does not fluctuate much when i put a load on it with the lights and all and rev the rpm's up. it goes up to around 13.98 volts give or take.

put in a different battery

checked the tensioner pulley

checked the engine ground strap ( a bit corroded but with a voltmeter seems to have a good ground.)

bogging down when i am driving it and giving it gas.

Idles great, when i rev it up for a while while parked and let go of the gas it revs down to a stall.

EAS seems to be functioning properly still, for now.

after a long test drive it only hesitates/boggs down at around 2100rpm, nothing below. and i can punch through it pushing the pedal all the way down, once it gets to 2700rpm and above it is ok.

any ideas what is going on here???

all this caused by a faulty TPS. just amazing.

well its doing it again. EAS stuck in HIgh High. and now in Hard Fault mode down to the bumpstops.

No one in this area has a setup to reset this ECU...

So I have disconnected the suspension ECU and from the rangerovers.net website used the directions to manually inflate each corner to an appropriate ride height and have left the suspension ECU off.
so far so good, it was a very simple procedure for anyone else looking to do this and all that was needed was two short wires and one philips screwdriver.
