Manual transmission 97 Disco -Shifter shakes on acceleration

#1 Post by archaeology_student » Fri Apr 11, 2008 6:36 pm

Howdy,

Just wondering if anyone could shed some light on an issue that just happened today. When I hopped in my Disco '97 which has the manual transmission (5 speed) today I noticed the shifter is shaking like crazy when I accelerate in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. When I down shift and use the engine to slow down instead of the brakes, the shifter is fine, and does not shake like crazy.

I did slam on the brakes last night suddenly to avoid something, and I was wondering if that might be causing an issue with the brakes potentially seized? Not a mechanic here, just trying to use logic ;)

Anyone else care to share some ideas?

Cheers,

Check your engine/trans mounts

A big thank you to Don!

Turns out it was the spark plug leads, and they were resting on the manifold! The shielding had melted and there was some shorting happening. The engine was misfiring and causing the issues mentioned above :)
