The old tyre question...........

Hi Dave,
Personally I have never had a problem with the BFG MT's in snow, I use the 235 - 85 -16 size.
As noted in a recent post (see link) not everyone is as convinced.

I have noted on club runs (including snow runs) that at least 50% of the trucks are running BFG M/T's which in my view gives it a vote of confidence.

cheers,
Andy

Get them syped for about $15 each and they'll be great.

Without siping "traditional" mud tires like those are about as bad as a tire gets in the snow and ice. If you are buying new, there are more modern alternatives that are better.

Sipe them. Big difference. Both my sets are siped and it's turned them into good snow tires. After the discussion thread we had about siping, a couple of members were having trouble finding someone to sipe on the lower mainland. Has anyone come up with a tire shop on the coast that'll do it?

I had my tyres siped two weeks ago while visiting Dave in Armstrong and siping made a huge difference in the ice and snow.

Hey guys why not buy the mud tire that beat the BF this year in several off road races and that would be the Toyo mudder and yes it has sipes and great rain traction, theres a reason BF has just brought out the new mudder / rock crawler, looks like the crawler with sipes, not being too pickey here but i have had the bf mudder and Ats. I have found no fault in these tires so far will keep everyone posted as im heading to the creston and sking.

Cheers

Whether its BFG muds or other brands, the siping you get from a tire shop puts exponentially more cuts in the tread than the factory siping, and this is where the superior grip comes from.

Sorry to tell you that there is absolutely no one in lower mainland that will sipe tires.
The closest I came was Kal tire on annacis island but they only do fork lift tires.

First of all , I don't consider Chilliwack as part of lower mainland,
second , I am not sure what pesamist means but if you mean pessimist , I am not being pessimistic ! I am being realistic as I did call most of the tire shops in lower mainland to find out who does sipping and to my surprise most of the shops didn't realize sipping was done on modern tires.
and third ,
if you are as good of a driver as you are a speller , perhaps you should be driving a forklift !

Thanks Kris for pointing out that you can't get siping in the lower Fraser Valley. Thanks Robert Mac for finding a place in Chilliwack that'll do it.

Now gentlemen, play nice together.
