It may sound simplistic and you may have already tried it but I had the same problem and it was resolved with a good douche of WD-40.

Does it open from inside??
The linkages need adjustment on occasion.

I've had an issue with the rear door of my Disco since I bought it. I need to put the key in, turn and hold to the left and then pull the lever at the same time and the door will open. If the key isn't in it, it won't open...not sure what exactly the deal is.
