Hello fellow Roverlanders,
I have been travelling about the UK visiting various Land Rover suppliers and
happened by the Scorpion Racing Centre last Friday. I met with Colin, the owner
and had a thoroughly wonderful couple of hours. He invited me out to the first
race in the 2007 Scorpion Racing Challenge Trophy Series to be held on Mother'
Day at Bordon.
The Challenge Trophy is a series of Eight Off-Road Events held aroud England.
You drive your vehicle to various stages around the course and touch a "cyber-
point" attached to your vehicle to the one on a fixed point usually a tree.
Only two Stages were timed a this event out of twenty points. Lots of winching
and excercise for the co-pilots.
It was very interesting. Of all the vehicles the most interesting to me was a
Range Rover hybrid. It was mid-engine reversed because it had Unimog axles.
The whole front end was full of hydrolics and the shock towers were huge. Have
a look. The other interesting competitor was Sue Gawe in her Purple Range Rover
who's hair was dyed to match. The events run through to early November so if
you are over try and catch one it is truely a great use for a military tank
traiing faciltiy.
