I have a 1968 Series 2A RHD military 109 from Suffield. I went to replace the brushes in the 12v generator, but they are a different shape than the replacements. The regular brushes are rectangular with the wire coming out of the back on one side.
The ones I have are notched in the rear to fit into the spring arm, sort of like a fat T. The wire comes out of the back in the middle. It is held in place a piece of spring metal which is sort of C shaped with a notch in the back for the wire to go through.
I don’t have my notes at work, but I think the writing on the generator body says
C 40 12volts

Colin, are you still fighting with this? If it is a C40 body it should accept the regular Series LR brush plate. I have lots if you can’t find one locally. I stock the brushes too.

Well it's not a rush or panic, so I thought I would try to track them down. I just e-mailed P.A. Blanshard so I will see what they have to say.
Also I noticed that the armature has a bearing on both ends rather than a bush at the end. there is also a grease trap at the end that feeds the rear bearing.
