Rover-Landers Annual Founders Day Sat Sept 3rd 2022

#1 Post by ANDYD » Mon Feb 28, 2022 9:34 pm

Hi All,

Good news, we have secured a date for our annual Founders Day 2022, it will be on Saturday 3rd September 2022.
Being held in our normal location at the Chilliwack Heritage Park in Chilliwack.
We are in discussions to confirm onsite camping for those coming from afar and we will be having a 1 day off-road run on the Sunday 4th September.

Mark the date on your calendar, plenty of time to get your Land Rover ready.

Cheers
Andy

This year we will be encouraging those attending to set up your Rooftop tents, awnings, tables and chairs, show off your camping set up!
Also we hope everyone brings their spare parts and Land Rover related gear for a swap-meet type of set up, start pulling those parts out the corner of the garage.

Cheers
Andy

I'm a member of the club but am in the process of restoring a S2a. I'd love to come but wanted to make sure, before driving from the Okanagan, that it's open to those who DON'T have vehicles on display too. I'm sure it is, but wanted to just double check... I saw a lot of mentions of 'in-house' swap meets, etc and wanted to check that those things are also open to non exhibitors... they say there are no dumb questions, but I'm out to prove them wrong! :)

We are planning to be there for Saturday. The ferry is booked. Do we have to pre-register/pay or do we just show up?

Hi All,

We are working on confirming the camping location in the next couple of days, something a little different and a much nicer campsite this year.
It most likely will just be a Saturday night camp-out so you would have to fend for your self if coming up on Friday night.
There will be a 1 day off-road run on the Sunday so even for the Vancouver crowd it might be good to stay in the area on Saturday night and be right there on the Sunday morning.
I will definitely have more information in the next day or two,

cheers
Andy

I am helping Andy D to find a camping area in Chilliwack since I am a local resident. This is for anyone planning to stay the Saturday night after the Founders Day show, and join us for the off-road run on Sunday (meeting place also in Chilliwack). Or if you need a place to camp the night before heading home.

Unfortunately, the Heritage Park site no longer offers camping for us in the back of their facility after our show event. HOWEVER, an equestrain non-profit organization called Discovery Equine has graciously offered to let us use their place:

- Address: 7630 Nixon Road, Chilliwack
- 20 minutes from Heritage Park (site of Founders Day), 5 minutes from Falls Golf Course
- Just below the waterfall on Elk Mountain with a spectacular view of Chilliwack to the south and the waterfall to the north (all from the same spot)
- Great walking trails too and an aggressive hike to the falls
- Outhouse and water available
- Large undercover area is available in the event of rain

They are a non-profit who graciously offered their place to us when I made a local community plea for help. I would like to suggest a donation of $20 (or more if you prefer) per vehicle for anyone planning to camp there on the Saturday night.

I need to get count of who are planning to camp on the Saturday night. Please send an email ([email protected]) or text (604-379-2600) with your name and cell phone number asap.

Thanks!

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for finding this place (on a long weekend) it looks awesome 8)
We will be camping out with you on Saturday night, please add me to your list.

This will be perfect for those coming from out-of-town and also for those coming on the Sunday run as you will be right there in Chilliwack in the morning.
We are looking at obtaining approx. numbers of campers so please let us know by posting up here or emailing Andrew G (as detailed above)

Note- The overnight Camping Fee is $20 each vehicle or $10 each vehicle for 2022 RL Club Members (the club will pay the other $10 for you). This money will all be going to the Not-for-profit organization that has allowed us to use this ground.
This is a great way to continue our Land Rover Social gathering after the FD event has ended, hope to see you there.

Cheers
Andy

Hi all!

Am visiting Vancouver for a research project at UBC from Belgium. In Belgium I restored a series 3 and I drive one as well. In vancouver I bought a dodge Caravan, but it's not made for off-roading... :|

Could I maybe join one of you guys on the off-roading trip on Sunday (as a passenger in the car)?

I can drive to the start location or meet somewhere between Chiliwack and Vancouver.

Thanks!!

(My email is [email protected])

Kind regards,
A fellow enthusiast,

Hi Bram,

You can ride with me in my Disco 2. I am the one in the maroon Disco with the James Baroud roof tent.

My suggestion is that you park your vehicle at the Value Village parking lot (45150 Luckakuck Way, Chilliwack, BC V2R 3C7) across from the McDonald’s meeting place. We depart at 10.30 am sharp.

I sent an email to you. Please send me a text to confirm if you are coming.

See you on Sunday!

I wanted to thank Andy, Andrew and all the other good folks for putting the effort into this year's Founders Day show. I've always enjoyed driving 1000+km each way just to come down and see the show and visit with so many friendly faces. I know how much work is put into organizing all of this and sometimes it seems like you feel you are the only ones stepping up to get the job done. But want you to know your efforts are greatly appreciated and I look forward to the next years already.

Many thanks to you all

Yes, it was a fun weekend, awesome to see so many Land Rover enthusiasts at both the Founders Day Event and the Sunday off-road run.

Thanks Bill for the kind words, yes, every year we say "that will be the last one, waaaay too much work" but its great too see it all come together and we appreciate there is not too many other Land-Rover-only events like it here on the north west coast. Fantastic that you enjoy it enough to drive so far.

A very Big thank you to all the volunteers that helped out before, during and after the event, especially to Andrew to put together the cakes, PA, movies and organized our excellent camping site for Saturday night.

Cheers
Andy
