Kodiak heater fan

#1 Post by pjtrover » Wed Feb 17, 2021 10:39 pm

Hello,
I have a 1960 series 2 with a Kodiak heater and I'm looking for a new heater fan motor . Mine is a replacement and it's louder than engine !
Any ideas ?
Thanks, Paul

First off, which Kodiak do you have? http://www.expeditionlandrover.info/Kodiak_heater.htm
Assuming a Mk 2 in a 1960, but could be any of them.

If it is a Mk 3 or 4 there’s a listing for a replacement motor here https://www.ovlr.org/OVLR.alt.parts.html not sure if the part is still current/available.

Depending on why yours is making so much noise, it may be able to be rebuilt as well. Tough to say not having it in front of me to look at.

These are simple heaters using common at the time parts, so with a bit of work they can be fixed up.

Pull the motor unit and remove the squirrel cage. Then power on. If it still is loud, it’s a bad motor. Put the cage back on and power on. If making noise, the cage is out of balance. It’s easy to knock off the small balance pieces mounted on a blade, especially on an old rusted cage.

New cage: Four Seasons 35601 Blower Motor Wheel

It looks like a mk.3 unit. Side intake. I think the motor in there now is a bosch. I found a Napa number but my local napa came up blank. Napa part # M882
Thanks, Paul

Try this, maybe your partsman needs some help finding it.

Or do a search on "FOUR SEASONS - 35511" This is what I used. Works great.

I've rebuilt a couple of heaters using the NAPA fan motor and it works perfectly.
