1989 Range Rover SOLD
Hi Guys,
It is with regret that I am listing my 1989 Range Rover for sale, including R380 swap not installed. I had hoped to keep this vehicle, but I am in need of a pickup truck as my 4x4. I have owned it for about 4 years, since 48,000km. I purchased it from the family that bought in new in 1989 (I have the bill of sale, going to try to find it to pass along). It was serviced by MCL under previous ownership, and I have serviced the vehicle since I purchased it. Here's a list of some of the work performed:
Springs are matched from side to side (originally fitted with unequal length springs, which I have). The load leveler has been removed (I still have it).
Polyurethane front panhard bar bushings
Drag link is a stainless sumo bar, using a D1 steering arm (uses tie rod end in drag link instead of in steering arm), with D2 steering stabilizer (I prefer the eye to eye mounting style)
Track rod is a non stainless sumo bar
Bilstein front shocks, oil filled rear shocks. Never had sway bars, but I do have a rear D1 sway bar I was thinking of installing to make the front suspension work harder.
4" extended goodyear brake lines to accommodate further suspension modification
Headers fitted, with custom exhaust. I have the cats and manifolds.
235/85/16 duratracs x5. Rotated every 10k or so, spare included. Some of the rims do have slight pitting.
Front fenders cut as per photos, rear inner fenders cut. Rear doors externally intact, the seal lip has been removed on each side, see photos. I have the seals.
CB radio installed
VW alternator, I believe it is a 120A but don't recall. Definitely more output than original. It does work with the tach (which the lucas one never did).
It has the manual transmission radiator installed (no provision for A/T cooler, thus the external cooler. The external cooler is meant as a temporary measure until the R380 is installed)
Pioneer radio with bluetooth. Needs new door speakers
It has been rocker guarded and painted below the belt moulding to protect during off road use.
Maintenance performed has included but is not limited to:
Oil has been changed every 5000km using an OEM filter and rotella 15w40 with Lucas ZDDP zinc additive
Heater core replacement
Water pump replacement
oil cooler line replacement
New lucas turn signal switch
All door lock actuators replaced (driver's door with OEM, the rest with aftermarket). Fuel door lock works. Rear hatch lock actuator is removed, I lock/unlock manually.
Trailing arm bushings replaced (frame side)
new headliner installed before I purchased it
The R380/LT230 swap is complete from a D1, it includes flywheel, clutch, pedal cluster (will have to combine with RRC cluster, as the D1 cluster has the steering shaft going through it). I have an ashcroft rebuild kit for the R380, box is not yet rebuilt.
The LT230 has been rebuilt using the OEM tools and manual, and an ashcroft rebuild kit including upgraded HD cross pin.
I have various other spare parts, as well as the original scan tool that I may include for the right deal.
I have taken pictures to try to show the general condition as best as possible. This is a 30 year old vehicle and is in great shape for it's age, but does have some areas that are less than perfect, as I have tried to show in the photos. I have used the vehicle off road a fair bit, but it has never been beat on. The window switch panel is the centre console is loose (typical RRC), the left rear door wood is missing. There is some bubbling under the paint in a few areas, but overall the body is very solid, as is the frame. The worst spot by far is on the roof, see photos. I was considering touching it up but wanted to show the honest condition of the vehicle, not try to hide anything.
I will be adding photos in the following posts if I can figure out how.
$10,500 with transmission swap parts, $9000 without. I will not sell the transmission swap separately at this point.
Thanks for reading

Re: 1989 Range Rover, 103000km. R380 swap parts (not installed)
Braden,
Where is the vehicle? I'd like to take a look at your Truck and get an idea of what it would take to change out the transmission. Give me a call at 6048169912 and we can chat?

I am interested in the R380 swap if you change your mind about selling separately.

Hi Ray,
If the truck sells without the transmission it will become available separately.
