It looks like a peugot 2.3T or a 2.5T would make a nice conversion, and Steve Parker in the U.K. makes a complete kit including exhast to fit a series rover.

Diesel Motor for 11A

I have a CKD from Costa Rica that has a Mercedes Diesel in it. The fellow that had it before me got it "sputtering" one day but it is essesially a non runner. It is in a 11A 88. If you are interested in it let me know. I can send photos. It would be reasonable in price.
