Diesel Mitsubishi J**p

#1 Post by Rob » Sun May 06, 2007 10:42 pm

Happened to see an interesting import at one of our island dealers this past week... a Mitsubishi clone of an old style Willy's flatfender J**p. Spoke briefly to the sales guy (didn't seem to know much about it) it is one of those RHD Japanese "15 year" rule imports. Basically it is an old style CJ3B but it has a modern 2.4 turbo diesel. Seems like an interesting little beast, about the size of a series 1 rover but with a much more modern powerplant. Can't find a lot about them on the internet but seems to be an intriguing little truck... seems to have a lot of commonalities with the older north american J**ps but I wonder about getting parts for the drivetrain, expecially the engine out here. Wasn't too bad for price, about what a half decent series truck is going for nowadays. I know J**p is a 4 letter word but it did look pretty cool with that turbo diesel under the hood of an old-school body style!

There's also a CJ3B version in India from Mahindra. Also found on the CJ3B page. I've seen those up close and they seem pretty good too. But then I'm an ex CJ3A owner.
