Drivetrain play

#1 Post by pathfinder » Sun May 06, 2007 5:11 pm

Just curious,

my drivetrain in my Disco 1 seems to have a fair bit of play in it. It isn't that noticeable until the center diff is locked in low range and it makes a bit of a clunk noise when on an off the gas. Something to be worried about? Possible culprits...transfer case or CV's maybe?

It sounds normal, based on your description. There are a lots of things to add up in the overall play and with a manual, it is normal to get some clunking. It can be a combination of slack in the drivetrain and suspension bushings.

One known problem area in the input splines to the transfer case. These sometimes wear.
