I just got a 1952 series 1 80"
good day all i just got a 1952 series 1 80"
i'm located in Victoria BC
got some questions about registration. there are no tags that i can find in or out of bulkhead.
is the frame vin number above the shock hangers? which one? inner or outer?
theres so much paint on the frame i can't see any. if any of you know where to start paint stripping let me know :)
also, if anyone can id what engine was in there based off of the added mounts ..
thanks

Re: looking for frame vin number series 1
I can’t see the pictures but I know what truck you picked up! I’m in Victoria as well and have a 1955 Series 1 pick up truck.

Frame # on top of front left engine mount (not battery tray side).
The engine mounts could be for almost any American motor. Lots of guys put in a Chevy “Iron Duke” 4 cyl. Given a single exhaust pipe, either that or a straight 6.
Windscreen frame and glass are old Jeep bits.
The tranny and steering box mounts are also custom.
What are you planning to do with it? Return to stock or go custom?

Re: looking for frame vin number series 1 (pictures now loaded)
i thought the windscreen a Fj40 unit...
i just want to repair the frame
engine swap a diesel (probably a 2.5 NA defender with trans)
mostly because i don't want to upgrade the axles at this time. they appear to be original.
locate battery in seat if it doesn't end up fitting with the 2.5na
the brakes will need going over. brake booster,
find chrome molly rear axle shafts
prop shafts will need ordering
simple wiring kit.
install windows.
paint it a nice land rover color. have to decide what one speaks to me
it was a tswassen truck for 10 years and before that north vancouver.
this is it in North Vancouver. so it hasn't been a running truck in a while.

Right, FJ40 windscreen.
A 2.25 NA diesel and series tranny will fit no problem and you don’t need to move the battery tray. Good luck finding series 1 “chrome moly” axle shafts. Doubt they exist. You could always swap in S2 axles. Lots more bits available.
Have fun!

These are Series 2/3 axles parts. Series 1 axles are shorter. I know that people used to use S2/3 axles with spacers between the hubs and axle case to make up the differences. I doubt the spacers are still available, but are not difficult to get custom machined up.
