The Old Series Rebuilds
Hey all, I thought I’d share some pictures of some old Series trucks I’ve been working on.
I found this old 1956 107 on gambier island in the bush. It’s actually in relatively good shape but it has been a bit of a job to get it on the road. I’ve been pretty much driving it daily all summer. Thought I’d share some photos and stories, I’ve had waaaaaay more fun with this truck than I thought I would, it’s a totally blast.
I found a second 1956 88 with the tropical roof, a cool find and some patina to die for. Although it really was in a bush for 35 years. The motor is turning over but it looks like a serious job to get this one back on the road. Enjoy the pics! Wish me luck

I think it’s worth a rebuild…

Re: The Old Series Rebuilds
The motor in the old 107 actually started pretty good after 30 years. We just dumped some gas in it and she fired. I ordered a new carb, put on a fuel pump, new gas, plugs and points. She ran pretty good after that.
The nightmare, was breaks….
Everything was rusted solid and seized, I changed a few of the lines, master cylinder, brake cylinders and shoes. I always had to pump the brakes and never realized that my rear brakes were totally backed off, once I adjusted the brakes, they work pretty darn good! I did blow a line coming down the steepest hill in Gibson’s, and there is only 1 cylinder…so all brakes gone. E brake home.
Thanks to the firehall for putting up with my wreck for a few weekends while I did the brakes.

Re: The Old Series Rebuilds
I think photos are the best, so here are lots. The whole goal of this truck was to go Topless, it is truly the best!
more fun stories of the summer.
Shifter broke off, managed to pry the gear box into first with a screw driver, drove right to the welding shop and they had it back on by the time I grabbed a coffee.
New tailgate, searched for a series 107 one for ages, realized they are the same size as all tailgates. Got one from Craigslist.
109 soft top with varying degrees of success, the truck looks like it is off to a coffee plantation in Cuba when it’s on. Still hilarious.
Radiator leaks, sent for recore, success. Hidden problem, the head gasket was completely gone so pressure kept blowing all my water out of the system. Was using about 2 litres an hour. Still
Worth filling and driving it around.
Nothing left of the rear cross member so the humongous bumper that was on there with the winch had to go. Anyone want it? Now I can use my tailgate.

Head gasket.
Well, this is self explanatory. Rest of the motor was fairly good. Some hairline cracks in the head and block, threw some
JB weld on them, seems to be holding up!

Great job saving them. 107 pick-ups are one of my favourites.

Re: The Old Series Rebuilds
The 56 88 is now running and driving surprisingly well. Needed a few things but for sitting in a bush for 30 years it’s quite remarkable. I’m just leaving everything original that I can.
Main things changed
New Brakes (all parts)
Head gasket
Wiring harness
Distributor
Carb
Lots of rust removal
