1997 Land Rover Wolf 110 TUM HS FFR Hardtop

#1 Post by StuartL » Mon Mar 20, 2023 10:53 am

I am selling a few of my Land Rovers to thin the herd.

First one up is my 1997 Wolf built July 31, 1997 so eligible to be imported to the USA also.

From Wikipedia;

Engine choice - When the Wolf was designed the engine in the civilian Defenders was the Td5. The Ministry of Defence preferred the 300Tdi for the Wolf because the electronics in the Td5 were more complex to manage in the field.

Reinforced rear axle
- Salisbury axles kept breaking. The axle was therefore redesigned using stronger internals, hubs and outer casing, making one of the strongest land rover axles ever made

Fiberglass roof
- simpler to manufacture over the raised height of the roofbars than the Defender aluminium roof.

Side-mounted spare wheel - Land Rover tried to mount the spare wheel caused the mountings to break free and it was too heavy for the bonnet

Chassis - The chassis is considerably different in design to the standard Defender chassis even though it looks similar. The side walls are standard, most of the rest is bespoke. The additional rear load bed mounting was to take increased weights as the standard chassis kept punching big dents in the rear floor.

Side lockers - he unusual shaped doors were simply to take full jerrycans more easily.

24 volt electrics

Internal roll cage

'Wright Off-Road' Matting System - reduce noise and heat from the transmission.

Power steering

This is equipped as it came from the MOD, cool items such as the rifle mount between the front seats and racking for the radio are as the MOD left it.

The mileage showing is 77,400 kms.

Price is $50,000

The vehicle is at Clapperton Ranch near Merritt.

Thanks Brian, it may not be the prettiest, but it is solid and drives amazing! Someone will be able to make this a legendary Land Rover.

Still to come up for sale are:

1951 80'" - Frame-off mechanical restoration but the body left in original patina.
1957 107" - Grizzly Torque - no reserve auction August 18 at RMSotheby's Monterey Auction
1959 88" - three tops -fresh exterior paint after returning from being driven by Kurt Russell in his latest movie
196? 88" - two of them ready for restoration, one with capstan winch and other with Koning winch.
1983/06 - Basically a new 2006 ROW Spec Defender 110 with only 3,000 original miles - perfect.
1992/06 - Same as above but with thousands of dollars of equipment added - Alba, my regular ride

Cheers,
Stuart

Hi Stuart

First off how's the forest rover coming? The Forest museum is looking forward to seeing it. The antique truck show is on again this year, I hope to have a lot of Rovers attending including the Maple Bay series 1 fire truck again.

Second the Nada Dormobile will likely be up for sale in late April its pretty much done, it will be for sale on Bring a Trailer and after that (if successful) I would be very interested in purchasing the 110 with 3000 miles. Keep me in mind anyway.

Victor

PS. Stay tuned for details of the June Van Isle Landrover rally, its the 20 year we have done it (thanks Greg for starting it) and its Landrovers big anniversary as well, its going to be a great 3 day fun filled exciting event.

For those of you good at research, the Ministry of Defence ERM number is KW87AA.

I am told I should be able to find out where It was deployed, but no luck so far.

Beautiful truck Stuart. Would you be interested in selling the other 110s you mentioned in the earlier post? I'm looking for a dialed in one to use with the family. Thanks!

Mike

Hello Mike,

Thank you for your kind words and yes the Wolf is a great truck.

Both of my other Defenders were "restored" in the UK using brand new ROW Defenders which give them all the advantages of improvements made to the TD5 but with the 300TDi engine. The problem is that to import to the USA the vehicle has to have the engine corresponding to the registration year and that isn't the case here as the engine was upgraded from what the donor vehicle was. So it's ok for Canadian importation but a problem in the USA, unless you just want a parts vehicle.

Cheers,

Thanks Stuart! Enjoyed our conversation and was thinking that could be a challenge on my end as well. Really wish you the best on the sale!
