Thinking of doing a DIY EV conversion on a 1959 88". Hoping there are a few others doing conversions that can add some suggestions on best ways to proceed. My current thoughts are to purchase a damaged EV vehicle such as a Nissan Leaf or Chevy Volt.... but haven't committed to anything.

More. There is substantial expertise required to adapt an existing EV to a non-native vehicle. Most people start with wrecked model 3's as they are more plentiful and there are more parts available.

If you want to get an idea of what's involved check out SuperFastMatt on YouTube, he did a model 3 swap into his classic Jag. The amount of work and engineering expertise is daunting... Which is one reason why the drop in kits are ~$100k.

I would love to see someone's completed setup as I think the idea is perfect for series land rovers!

You can do it for $20k. You just need to be able to design and understand the systems. It is not complicated but there are no cheap options unless you don’t want any range.

I got a quote for materials from a reputable EV supplier on Victoria island. Everything you need for the conversion including adaptor plate, motor, controller, charging system, cabling, and batteries for ~100km range was $27,000 after taxes. Buy everything in an engineered kit specifically for a series Land Rover and put it together yourself. At least that it what I would do.

I too am planning on electrifying my 62 station wagon. Frankly there are just so many options. From the basic Juant Motor (Netgain) option all the way to the Zero Labs skateboard chassis and everything in between. Currently I’m leaning in a Nissan Leaf/LT230 solution where I think you get the best bang for your buck. I think it would fantastic in this day and age if the Roverlander administrator would consider giving us likeminded users our own forum heading to promote Rover EV projects and builds

This is the kit I ordered about a month ago for the conversion I'm doing. It was $32k after tax.
