The Northwest Challenge location and date has finally been secured!

Oregon will host this year's event October 7 to 9. For the past few months a group of volunteers have been exploring the Northwest corner of Oregon looking for some new terrain to explore. We have secured a premier camping location and identified a variety of trails that will challenge the adventurous. Each NWC team will consist of a land rover with a driver and navigator (sorry, no children). Land Rovers must have a working winch, be fully licensed, insured, have a secured load and be in good mechanical condition. A proper roll bar is required for all open and soft-top vehicles. Equipment carried, must be sufficient to see the team to and over all obstacles encountered, without the assistance of other participants. After check in on Friday night, each team will traverse over some challenging terrain and eventually arrive at our camping area for the night. Please note that roof top tents or trailers may not survive the journey. There will be a fee requiredthat will cover registration, a dinner on Saturday night and an amazing collectable event T-shirt. This challenge is not designed to damage your vehicle but it will require preparation, creativity, care, patience and skill.

A brief history of the Northwest Challenge
In 1989 the first Northwest Challenge was held in Oregon, organized by Doug Shipman. The group of Land Rovers braved the wet weather and headed out into old snow conditions, which made for slow progress. Although there were no prizes for this wet run the Northwest Challenge has evolved over the last 25 years and has even been featured in Land Rover Owner, Land Rover Monthly and Land Rover International Magazines. The original organizers Gord‘n Perrott (WA), Aart Van Der Star (BC) and Doug Shipman (OR) thought it would be best to share the load of putting on this event every year and thus the Northwest Challenge alternates host locations between Oregon, Washington and British Columbia. Since 1989 members of the Pacific Coast Rover Club and Rover-Landers of British Columbia have organized and participated in the Northwest Challenge. Dedicated Land Rover enthusiasts have come from as far as Vermont and S.F. California to participate.

Talked with Ian. Event starts at 6pm on the Friday and ends around noon on the Sunday so it would be a drive up Friday morning and return Sunday event. About 7 hours drive each way. $60 to enter.

I would have gone, but unfortunately falling on the long weekend it has been pre-empted by family duties...
