I think we all would prefer to save them all. Do you have the means to collect it from Smithers? I figure it has $2k work of parts between my needs and others.

I’d be interested in the wiper motors, ash tray and steering wheel. Pm me what you’d like for those bits and then we can see what shipping is to Victoria.

Mark, the first 3/4 of your post looks like you want to buy it, but the last line says no?

The biggest issue you’ll have is instead of having a reasonably complete vehicle sitting in your yard, you’ll have a less complete shell sitting there after people cherry pick the best parts off of it. Now it is less viable for you or someone else to restore, your wife is even more frustrated by it and potentially you get even more grief about it. Hopefully not to the point it gets scrapped just to clean up the yard.

The other problem is to get the parts to sell to recover that $2k you think there is in the truck takes time away from putting your other truck together. Now it is sitting torn apart longer, prolonging the time til you can drive it and increasing the chances of it not getting finished.

I think you need a bigger yard or to hide it at a friends place and you can rebuild this one after you get your Series 2 together.

Some trucks are legitimately beyond putting back together and should be parted, while others like this that have remained fairly intact but need lots of work can be harder calls to make.

 If only I had a yard big enough to fit all the vehicles I wanted to keep... I guess this explains why farmers have a collection of dead vehicles somewhere 8)

I'm sorry your upset by my decision. None of the parts have left the yard yet so it's yours to buy and collect if you'd like? :P (That was sarcasm) I have distracted the wife by building raised garden beds and a greenhouse. Perhaps if I roll it behind the garage and tarp it quietly...

From my experiences in the Triumph world I was expecting a need for more critical parts than wipers and gauges. The thought that one rover would be sacrificed to put a few back on the road.

Trust me when I say I understand the complaining wife side. I have more project Rovers here than you and a couple parts trucks in far worse shape than yours as well. I have enough to keep me busy for quite a while yet, so not actively looking for more at this point.

You have found exactly what I meant about people cherry-picking the few desirable pieces off leaving you with the rest to deal with still. The main reason people want the wiper motors and gauges is those are some of the first pieces robbed when a truck is parted.

I fully understand the point of some trucks getting parted to keep others alive, just that as you are finding, it’s a tough line to define when to save vs when to part a truck out.

I'm looking for the heater air distribution box, demister nozzles, and the panel that supports the hand throttle. Can you sell these parts to me? Lawrence 403-607-8625.

Any of the parts would be great thanks.

For what it is worth, I am on my 3rd Land Rover restoration. I don't believe it is practical to restore a Rover without having at least one parts vehicle, if not two. They made a million of them, so parting one out so that others can restore there's properly is entirely reasonable.

When I'm done, I'll have a big stash of parts left over from several Rovers, and I'm sure they will find their way into other guys Rovers, and keep them running.

Please give me a call
