Catalytic converter theft
Hey I know most of you have probably heard of the increase in catalytic converter theft in bc, mine was recently stolen last weekend and some of the engine wires were cut to disable the alarm system we suspect since the truck doesn't start now. I can hear the fuel pump and all the lights and stuff come on but when you crank it nothing happens. My dad and I have a insurance claim and police file number and yesterday it got towed to the dealer for repairs. I just wanted to warn you all to be careful where you park and if you can park them in the garage, rovers and other European cars and primarily suvs are high targets because of the easy access. I have a 04 discovery that now needs new converters and a diagnosis on the no start issue so it will probably be gone for a while. I just wanted to warn you all to be careful.

Re: Catalytic converter theft
Anyway if anyone's curious the truck needs new cats, o2 sensors, starter wire, and a new heat shield that isn't produced anymore, in total the dealer said 5000 in repairs needed including labor. Amazing how much damage you can do in 2.5 minutes.

Bring back hanging, messing with somebody's horse should be a capital crime.

@ajjay.s Get another quote that is hi-way robbery. Try HESP or Rovalution
A complete Y pipe from Atlantic british is 700.US O2's are about 200.00 CDN install should be maybe 1.5 to 2 hours assuming issues with the manifold studs.
Starter wiring maybe a couple of hours.
So labour 800 at worst
Parts call it a 1000-1200.

Re: Catalytic converter theft
I'm aware of the high pricing even I thought it was outrageous but insurance is paying for it not me so we'll see what happens this week if they accept the claim or not, I'm not sure what the whole buyback process is if the truck is written off but I estimated 2.5k on the high side including labor to repair all the damages at a shop like hesp or rovalution. Is there a cheaper method of shipping than paying $300 US for a complete y pipe assembly?

Re: Catalytic converter theft
@ajjay.s have it shipped to Sumas or the Pac Hwy and cross over and pick up your self. You may be able to just order cats and have them welded in, depends on the amount of damage done.
You can get a y pipe from Rockauto shipped for 842.00 all in, gst & pst included takes about 10 days to arrive.

Thanks for the tip I'll look Into the rock auto option, I have some pictures of the damage done underneath. sorry if it's off angle. I'm more annoyed that the wiring was cut then at least I could've heard the mighty v8 with no exhaust.

Is is happening here in Alberta Ajjay.S as well and sorry to hear it happened to you... We had rentals (3 total) and it was just under $5800.00 for one. I park in my garage every night for that reason...

Re: Catalytic converter theft
Finally got it back after a month and a bit. It's good to have it back, it's louder than before too which is interesting. Insurance paid out a big bill and there were 2 other older discoverys at the dealer too that have been there since I dropped mine off, wonder if they had stolen parts too.
