It is quite puzzling to me how rarely people driving LR's any newer than a Disco 2 wave, or even seem to notice another unique LR passing by.

Noted. We wave because of the adventures that we’ve undertaken off the road.
It been said that the average off road vehicle owner waits until mileage hit 160,000km and up to actually to truly take their vehicle off-roading. Until that point in mileage is reached it just another SUV on the road picking up groceries, kids, etc.

Noted. We wave because of the adventures that we’ve undertaken, or about too, off the road and those that we wave to may be our assistance, taken or given, in the past, present and in the future. Or it simply could be that the hand is broken and didn’t look for the head nod instead.

The rule of thumb I heard is that Land Rovers never go off road until their third owner. I know it's not 100% accurate, but I'm pretty sure that neither my D2 or P38 had been off road before I had them.

I pretty much agree with that statement.

Defender's probably have a different set of rules than Disco's and Rangies.

Good post. I don’t think the rule is new though, it’s just not followed.
