Landrovering Memories

#1 Post by RobinS » Thu Nov 19, 2020 6:03 am

I was just thumbing through some of my old "Transfer Box " club magazines and wondered if there are many others That remember those days back in the 1980's. I was heavily involved with the Island Rovers , which was the Vancouver Island chapter of ALROC. The Association Of Landrover Owners Of Canada. Several times we all got together and crossed the channel to have an outing with the Roverlanders. I recall Vedder Mt. and a 4 or 5 day adventure on a high mountain trail. Who could forget such colourfull characters as Ron Low and of course the late great Harrold Huggins, who was the founder of ALROC. It never fails to bring a smile to my face when I think about Harrold and his love of Landrovers, steam engines and home made beer. It seemed half our club members were in the Canadian Navy so someone was always away at sea. I hope this brings back some pleasant memories for a few of you. Cheers Robin

Robin,

Fond memories indeed. Harold was a good family friend who we met not long after my father bought his first Land Rover in 1976. The first ALROC meeting was held at my family home in Ottawa. Was the "high mountain trail" you remember the Pimainus Lakes run?

This is a photo of me on the front cover of Transfer Box in 1987. I'm pushing deep water with my Dad's 88". Interesting to note that our Matt Mepham is now restoring this Landrover in Victoria.
