Off-Road Events for June 2020
Hi All,
Its been challenging start of the year for organizing our club events due to Covid-19. As restrictions begin to ease we finally have a couple of trips upcoming in June.
The Vancouver Island Rally that its typically in June will still be going ahead on the weekend of 12-13th June, although with the current Non-Essential travel advisory in place for the BC Ferries it will likely just be attended by residents of Vancouver Island and of course will have a few changes in place to make sure everyone can safely attend and still socially distance.
See the Vancouver Island Tab on the forum for more information.
To avoid disappointment for the Lower Mainland group who can not attend the Van Isle Rally, on the weekend of 12-13th June, we will be arranging a weekend wilderness off-road run and camp out in the Manning Park Area. We will pick a route and camping area that will allow everyone to spread out with plenty of room, For more details and to let us know if you're attending, see the "Events Tab" in the Rover-Landers Members only section,
Cheers
Andy

Re: Off-Road Events for June 2020
Both events went ahead successfully, its really great to see some kind of normal returning to the Rover-Landing world!
The Vancouver Island Land Rover Rally had two days of off-road fun lined up, the first day was a non-scratch off-road trip up to visit a plane crash site, high in the mountains behind Lake Cowichan. The second day was a more challenging day off-road run that saw some scratches and bruises but was a lot of fun.
I have been asked to relay a big Thank You to Colin and the organizers for scouting out the runs and holding the event in what is a very strange year!
As we wait for some more photos to come in, here are a few to get things going .

The Mainland Event was a 2 day off-road loop out to Placer Lake, then Placer Mountain and back along the Ashnola River.
We had 10 Trucks convoy out on Saturday morning and were just about able to complete the loop, almost being stopped by white-out snow conditions as we traversed Placer mountain. Great fun and a big relief to get out and shake off the Cabin Fever.
Here are a few sample photos. More photos will be posted in the Gallery soon. The Trip report will be in the next newsletter.

What a fun weekend with great company! Once again, thanks to Andy for leading the group. I enjoyed myself and the trek in the snowfall was a sight to behold this late in the year.

Had a great time. Had a chuckle seeing that Placer Lake was consider a Class 6 in The Four Wheeler’s Companion by Mark Bostwick

@amadreas you made me look up what was considered a class 6 trail I have never worried about trail ratings beyond yup I can go there nope I can not go there.
But a Class 6 seems to be Quite rocky or deep ruts. Rocks to 12" and frequent. Water crossings may exceed hub depth with strong currents. Shelves to 6". Mud may require checking before proceeding. Moderate grades to 20 degrees. Sidehill may approach 30 degrees. 4WD necessary and second attempts may be required with stock vehicles. Caution may be required with wider vehicles.
So that is fair but given the chart only goes to 10 it seems to ramp up pretty fast.
Hope you enjoyed your 1st trip out, you did miss the Snowflake run portion though

Yes very much enjoy my first outing. Yes I am sorry to have missed the remainder of the trip, especially the “easier” portion of Placer Mtn to ashnola. As for trail ratings, it’s only a number associated with a section in a book that had me concern if I could manage it. But it worked out. As for real world trail rating, your correct as to, I can go there, or I can’t go there. I’m just thinking that the day will come when I starting thinking, “sure I can do that...it’s a Landy” followed by, “well that was stupid”.rgallant wrote: Thu Jun 18, 2020 8:16 am @amadreas you made me look up what was considered a class 6 trail I have never worried about trail ratings beyond yup I can go there nope I can not go there.
