Is this supposed to come out of the oil pan?

2006 LR3 V8 160,000 kms.

Carnage, 4 of 8 rods destroyed. Oil was like molasses. Hole in the block and oil pan. I suspect previous owner hadn't changed the oil in years.

Yikes. Pretty horrible. It should go without saying, but don't attempt repair of that engine. With the holes in block it would be hard to do that. Don't bring out the JB weld :). Scrap metal that one and go with a rebuilt short block if you can, or more likely, an engine from a wreck that changed his oil.

I have seen some horrible sludge in the bottom of oil pans, but nothing that terrible. On an older high-km classic car, the pan should come off for a thorough cleaning. It wouldn't have helped you here.

car-part.com might allow you to search scrapyards.

I'm sure it will buff out.

Yeah, I've already got a new engine I'm prepping for install. I knew the engine was shot when I bought the car, but I've never seen quite so much carnage.
