Flat towing question

Can I flat tow a 90 with my 2500HD Silverado in BC? I'm thinking that I'm very close to the point of requiring a braking system on the towed vehicle under BC rules.

Your challenge will be the type of vehicle you are using as the tow vehicle, the BC rules mentioned in this document state that you can only use a tow-bar if the towing vehicle is a motorhome.

There is nothing in the Motor Vehicle Act or Regulations that restricts tow bars to motorhomes, so flat towing with your pickup is okay.

The issue is whether brakes are needed or not. If it is over 1400kg towed weight, it needs brakes to be legal behind your pickup.

Looking up specs, a 90 will be over this, so the answer is yes, it will need brakes to be legal.

Flat towing is done a lot, especially by drivers delivering tractor units - they flat tow their car behind.

I’ve also seen graders towing pick-ups using a tow bar.
