I have located the above mentioned RR and I was wondering what your comments would be in regards to purchasing a NON runnining rover.
Here is the story that I have been fed so far
engine stopped one day, it would turn over but not fire so the cowboy mechanic says "Fuel Pump" so he replaced it then shorted out the computer and now it has sat it the back of the shop for over a year and has not run since............. soooo sad.
ps mechanic/slash sales person no longer works there and the owner says its worth $6000.00 what a joke! but will take offers........
on the plus side
the body is good,
Leather is very good
Rims are stock and good
paint is alright
no rust!
underside is good as well
Rear window is rust free
Tailgat is also rust free
But thats all I know............
Feel free to through out your thoughts on this subject ......... What would you do? Is there any one local that you would trust to work on the vehicle to bring her back to life without being taken to the cleaners?
Cheers for now

Hmmmmm
Given the unknown engine drama I would offer $1500 as a gamble based on the info you supplied but maybe less or get a lland rover expert to look it over that would be best.

Sounds like you are buying a project vehicle... lots of potential but a lot of unanswered questions. Personally I prefer to do mechanical work than bodywork as it is easier (I think) to RnR mechanical componenets than do serious rust or panel repairs so if you are of the same sentiment this might be a good project to consider.
It's a gamble... might need a few electronic bits and away you go... or it could be an electronic nightmare with a calfed motor to boot. If you are buying a non-runner then you should be paying for a non-runner. The electronic components are big bucks new (though used bits are out there) and you have no idea about the engine or drivetrain internals... might smoke like a #####... tranny trashed... so forth... I'm sure you get the picture.
Seems like there are lots of "driveable" rangies out there... price for this one should be set accordingly.... did the shop owner explain with they havent invested the money to fix it and sell it as a running vehicle?
Just my 2 cents.

Gentlemen,
Thank you very much for your input. I have found a 1989 RR and hopefully everything going well will have it in our driveway in a week or so if it checks out as well as the owner promotes it.
Then my sons and I can attend some landy events and be in the mud were a landy should be play.....
Cheers for now
PS thanks Paul C for the headsup on the craigslist website

Well I guess I spoke to soon, we went out to look at the 89 county and realised that no matter how well intended people are about their descriptions of the used vehicle..................... its realy very open to interpretation. im thinking its realy emotional for them :D
I am now still on the prowel for a good clean used RR and will keep looking and looking and looking........... I realy miss my 94 county long wheel base should never of sold it..... Maybe Im just to picky? I know that I dont want a white one or a black one.............. I dont think Im discriminating???
Cheers for now :)
