Harrison West Run - Sunday 30th Dec 2018

#1 Post by ANDYD » Thu Dec 27, 2018 6:02 pm

Hi All,

With the good possibility of some sunshine 8) on Sunday we are taking the opportunity to get outdoors for an End-of-Year run to the west side of Harrison Lake.

What - A 1 day casual off-road run, light to medium off-road, as always a slim possibility of some BC pin-striping.
Where - Up the west side of Harrison Lake, down to Hale Creek beach & Fossil Beach.
When - Meeting at the Subway Restaurant on Highway 7, Mission (34963 Lougheed highway) at 9.00am, (its 5 minutes East of Mission) grab some breakfast and a take out lunch - There is also a gas station there (Co-Op) that does Petrol and Diesel next to the Subway. If you need fuel, fuel up first when arriving, departing at 9.30am sharp. Google Link - http://goo.gl/maps/XNnzk
Why - Fresh mountain air, the adventure, beautiful scenery, your Land Rover (and you) needs exercise...
What Else - Bring a Camera, Camp chair, Sunglasses, Family. Most likely have a camp fire on the beach. We expect to be back on the road at Mission around 4pm.

Hope to see you there....

You mind if a couple Jeeps join?
I haven’t braved fossil beach since they mowed down the entrance a few years ago. Has anyone been there recently? Hear there are some BIG rocks blocking the new entrance.

Yesterday's trip was the grand finale of 2018, arrived home late with lots of amazing pictures, videos and a flat tire!

Thanks for the great company and support, Happy New year everyone.

12 vehicles in a row, 10 hours in the bush, 7 vehicles winched up a washout (all 12 went down), 5 downed trees removed from trails, 4 dogs along for the ride, three flat tires, lots of dislocated coil springs (major articulation!), a broken spring, a dented panel, and a lovely lunch and fire on Fossil Beach.

Awesome day!

Well the easy fixes are done new tire and alignment completed, visual undercarriage inspection done. No new damage found, the muffler has a good sized dent and I have a bit more exhaust noise but that muffler had already had a muffler tape repair so time for new one.

The body damage is annoying more because the 1 quote I got so far was 1500.00, so that is a Sunday or 2 of work to clean up in the driveway.

My apologies for being so grumpy at end. I was tired, a bit wet and annoyed with the tire more so than the body damage.

Hope to see you all on the next run

Hi Richard,

I think even more frustrating than the flat tire was watching the jack sink into the road surface then trying to find a suitable rock to broaden the jacking surface and using the Hi-Lift on your running board to get the height back we lost initially. At least you had what was needed to do the job in the end.

Reminder to all of us to have at least the following:
-at least two methods of jacking your vehicle (one hopefully to bail out the other when it fails).
-a good piece of thick plywood (about one square foot) or some other suitable manufactured device to spread the load.
-a spare tire with air in it.
-correct size lug nut wrench and breaker bar for those stubborn nuts
-something to act as a wheel chock in case there aren't any rocks or chunks of wood around.
-gloves, eye protection and condoms are optional

Bill

Well I now have a nice 18 in square piece of 3/4 in ply added to my kit, just because of that.

All in all the Disco came through pretty well, a few niggling leftover issues to clean up but nothing to serious. Body damage is coming along nicely, it just needs to stop raining.
