Does anyone know of any places on Vancouver Island that galvanizes boat trailers etc. I'm pulling my 110 of the road for a major. Rebuilt 300TDI, rebuilt R380, rebuilt tcase, rewiring and the list goes on. Figured while I was going this far I might as well bite the bullet and treat the frame to some tlc.
OR do I have to subsidize BC ferries and go to the mainland.

Ive been wrestling with the same question myself. I've tried internet searching for anyone who does it but have come up empty for anything on the island so far

Sadly there’s no hot dip galvanizers on the island open to the public. The DND has their own but you won’t be able to sneak a frame in. You’ll have to go to the mainland. I used silver city to do my Land Rover parts, there is also Ebco metal finishing close by silver city.

You pay by weight of zinc used. I was quoted roughly $400 an 88” Land Rover frame so figure a little more for a 110

Being centrally located, ten hours drive from Calgary or Vancouver, I went to Spokane,, only 4 hours drive, last autumn to have my 110 chassis, bulkhead, full-width brush guard and a lot of other bits, totaling 52, hot dip galved. It cost a total of Canadian $535. I thought that this was very good value.

The galvanizing will likely be the cheap(er) part. Cost of transport is looking to be about 400$ per trip. so 800$ minimum by the time we drop off and pick up. Splitting that a few ways could go a long ways to making it affordable

Silver City is the place to go for sure.
I just had an entire boat trailer frame and the rock rails for my 110 done. including tax, out the door $184.
Avoid disappointment. Make sure all the loose scale and rust is removed. No paint or welding slag. Their acid dip will only take care of very slight surface rust/oil/dirt.
Drain holes are a must, bigger the better and in all locations that will stop the molten zinc from escaping. They will check and reject you if you haven't enough drainage. Threaded holes will need to be re-tapped after dipping.
I've never had anything done in under a one week turn around but they are sympathetic to hobby builders and will do their best to squeeze you in between bigger jobs.

All the pieces I took had been grit blasted and I had drilled a number of drainage holes in the chassis, but they said they would drill additional holes if necessary. All in all, they were very good to deal with, and I think that I had very good value.

Sorry, Koopsy, that I haven't replied sooner, but I must admit that I don't come on every day. Anyway, I had a lot of parts galved, including a number of thin metal sheet bits, including the bulkhead and the waistline cappings. Fortunately, nothing seems to have warped. I did re-enforce the bottom of the bulkhead with an angle iron from edge to edge, but nothing else. Perhaps I could/should have done more, but at least what is done will outlast me!
