throttle position sensor

Would a failing throttle position sensor ever shut an engine down at highway speed? I've never had one fail that way - usually just makes for a rough idle. A few weeks ago my 90 RRC stalled out and wouldn't restart and I figured it was the ignition amplifier module. I was towed home and swapped in a good dizzy, amplifier and coil and everything fired up and ran pretty good - except after it was warmed up. I figured it was something in the new ignition set up - but when I started running tests on the ECU - it came up bad TPS. I never suspected that the TPS would go wobbly so close to swapping out the dizzy and coil - so I was obsessed that it was ignition related - thought maybe even I bumped the connector off the coolant temp sensor when wrestling with items in that area. The fact that it ran great cold and went south warm narrowed it down to things that change operation with temperature - so I started working with the ECU pins to see who was derelict. I never tested the amplifier before I swapped it - so I'm wondering if the TPS was the culprit from the get - go.

I have no experience yet with Rover EFI, but a TPS doesn't seem like a likely culprit to shut it down completely. Several years ago I had a car that would shut down like that and it turned out to be an intermittent crankshaft position sensor. It wouldn't show up on the OBD2 because when I had the scanner on, it worked.

The manual lists the TPS as a possible no-start cause, but I've never had one just shut a car down like the ignition amplifier does. Maybe when I have some spare time I'll swap in the old amplifier and do the test on it I should have in the first place :). I had all the spare parts just sitting around so I didn't lose any money on the fix - it would just be nice to know.
