Dual Battery Setup

#1 Post by overlandingbc » Mon Dec 25, 2017 4:29 pm

Does anyone have any recommendations on dual batteries for under drivers seat (LHD) 300tdi, in particular:

1.) Battery physical size
2.) Brand & type
3.) If you have it an item code would be awesome
4.) Any pictures of your set up would be amazing

I'm thinking one for cranking and one deep cycle for auxiliary items.

Any suggestion most welcome. Thank you.

I've had a pair of Optima red tops under the seat of my 90 since 1998 and they still work, though not in really good shape anymore. They are wired in parallel all the time. I've heard that Optima batteries are not as good as they used to be these days though so you might want to look at what else is available. I'd be inclined to go with some sort of AGM like the Optimas.

Room will depend if you have the built in separated area or not. I'm currently running group 24 Exide Edge batteries in the marine version. FP-AGM24DPC (flat plate AGM, dual purpose starting and deep cycle) in my 90 with the separated area. Costco sells them online every now and then for $200. Crappy tire sells them rebranded for a bit more. Without the storage area, you can fit group 27s (really common marine size), which I have in the 110. Both sizes are a bit tall, so you need to be careful with the terminals. Group 34 or 78 are shorter but not as common.

I'd take pictures, but it is -32 this morning and the trucks are outside.

I have a dual battery securing system if you need one for $50 + mail from the Island.
Never used Devon 4x4 kit. Zinc plated. Details on their website.
Stated as suitable for 2 Odyssey PC 1500’s or Optima size.
Eric.
