rebuilt engines ?

Reconditioned land rover engine's for series and 300tdi would there be any interest. I've spent a lot of time building these back in the UK and am thinking about starting here in bc. Just putting some feelers out at the moment Seeing if it's possible and if there would be a call for them.
Will be working out prices and a source of core engine's but this is very early day for this project... let me know what you think! Thanks

Where were you 3 years ago? I spent a huge amount of time looking for someone to rebuild a 2.5 NA Diesel. I ended up going to a shop in Kelowna who took about 6 months and charged me double what they estimated, about $6k. There's a shop in Vernon that does a beautiful job on Bosch dist pumps, but in the end it would've been cheaper to buy new. I'd say go for it and do gearboxes as well if you can. I would support you.

Agreed! I just paid nearly $6k for a rebuild here on the coast. They did good work (so far) but I'd rather pay a specialist who knows their way around a Rover.

Thanks for your help :-) I was thinking about doing other parts to but plan to start with just the 2.25/2.5 engine's so I could carry the parts without having to order them from the UK for each job Hopefully it will keep prices lower. Also looking at the series 1 engine but think that may need to be done as one offs. As parts are hard to find and $$$$

Would you be able to do 200tdi's? I understand the 200 is a pretty easy drop-in to a series, while a 300 needs a bit of work.

I think it's a great idea, we are in need of more competent and knowledgeable Land-Rover engine rebuilders that operate at fair prices. Where are you considering setting up shop?

I will be based in sparwood bc or in this local area but as landy rover owners are spread across Canada i plan to create and ship them as needed.

On the point of 200 tdi it's very similar to the 300 tdi but in my opinion not as good. 300tdi will go into a series 2/3 without too much trouble. Also you can buy a conversation kit of the shelf for this. Which maybe a good import to stock.
But this is still early days and I am trying to use my old suppliers from UK. But it looks like you're interested :-)

I think for Series 1s the 200tdi is a much easier drop in. As I have mostly Series 1s, that drives my question. Would you do 200tdi engines if I asked for a batch? Have you done many in the past?

Sparwood? You should be asking on the Alberta club forum. I think a good engine rebuild service would see use if the price and quality is better than what the local rebuilders have been giving.

How much for a kit to drop a 2.5 NA Diesel into a Series IIA?

I have a Series III synchro gearbox to go behind it.

I also have an LT77 which what I'd really like to use but it's missing the top cover and stick assembly.

at this time you are probably best asking this company. Steve Parkers Ltd they were really useful.
and make a good kits to put most land rover engine's in to the series 2/3..
Hope this helps you with your project.
in the future I am hoping to be more useful...
currently trying to sort out a shipping and duty ect. To see if this will be a good business..

Hi Bill,
When rebuilding an engine a machine shop is needed. (as you know).

So my question to Arthur was based on the assumption that he would be handing over the block and head to a shop. And as he is knowledgeable about these engines and their requirements he would be able to discuss with them exactly what to do rather than hand the whole engine over to them for refurbishment, sometimes with dodgy or incomplete replacement of parts.

I just sent an engine (1956 2.0l) into the machine shop today. Fortins in Chilliwack. He has a good reputation, mostly does racing engines but also does industrial and agricultural engines, so I will let you know how it goes. I will be using Cox and Turner components.
But honestly I'd much rather let someone who knows what they are doing shepherd the full process.

FYI... I think I spent about $6k with the shop in Kelowna which included a new crank and a complete rebuild of the fuel distributor pump which I think they subbed to Valley Fuel Injection in Vernon

so this idea definitely seems like a good one.
and it looks like people have been spending a good bit of time and money sorting out there rover engine's.
one more question would people prefer to keep there own blocks for originality (if original) or just have a "create motor" of the shelf? Or probably a bit of both.

Personally, I don't care if I keep my same block. I'm not doing a Concours d'Elégance restoration. I'm more of a Resto-Mod kinda guy. Keep it looking original but modernize where it makes sense.
