Colb's Red Rover

#1 Post by Colb45 » Thu Jul 23, 2015 12:25 pm

Hey guys I new to the Land Rover scene, and honestly never thought I would own one.. Then I drove one and had to have it!!

I currently have a 2007 LR3 HSE which is going to be my new adventure camping rig. My previous builds were always lowered VWs and Audis so it is a different change for me having something that can get over a speed bump...

My main focus for the last bit has been the maintenance items, I was fortunate enough to have purchased it from folks who were very anal at maintenance.

Maintenance completed since I am OCD:

-Diffs & T-case flush
-Tie rods
-front brakes
-brake flush
-powersteering
-air filter
-Cabin filter
-AMK Compressor upgrade
-Lower Control Arms

Goodies added:
-Voyager Rack & Ladder
-18"s LR rep wheels
-265/65-18 BF All terrian KO2 rubber

To do/install:
-50" curve LED light bar, Rigid spot and flood for reverse lights
-Custom kayak holders/brackets
-Traxide dual battery setup + 12v,USB, Volt meter for 2nd battery
-ARB 50QT fridge/freezer

Looking forward to many fun adventures and breaking parts along the way!
Pictures to come tonite

Sounds like a nice ride...

Will you be joining the weekend expedition in Manning Park?

Update with the rig, no pictures have been working late into the night :( . Trying to get everything wrapped up before my mini expedition to Nakusp to check out the hotsprings (excuse to go 4x4ing with the lady)

Took a gamble on the compressor refresh kit which comes with the new silica, piston refresh, various o-rings. Rebuild went with out a hiccup, re-installed it and fired it up to find the dreaded normal suspension fault, chased around the compressor and found out the convex lid of the drier was flexing at the outlet pipe causing the leak which threw the low pressure fault. Mis-diagnosed my initial issue oh well learning curve.

After debating on ordering the billeted aluminum end cap, I decided to bite the bullet and go for the new AMK.. Figured I will encounter problems one way or another down the road with that hitachi compressor and the worst would be if i was out 4x4ing in nakusp or anywhere.

Installed new AMK compressor zero issues, had the software re-flashed works like a charm.

Also replaced the lower control arm assemblies, must have been incredibly with the encentric bolts that are historically brutal to get out of those vehicles. Had both sides banged out in less than an hour and Fixed my pulling to the right issue. Thought about doing the upper control arms, but everything was in good condition and I did not feel like pulling the front struts and bs to get at the bolts to get it done.. One day I might do them

I'm also interested in a voyager rack and ladder...I would guess your taking the Monashee pass/ Needles ferry to Nakusp but if your heading up towards Revelstoke and can spare a few minutes I wouldn't mind checking out your rack setup.

Dang sorry i missed this before i left! I am going to get a couple pictures up asap of it.

I did the voyager contractor rack with their ladder, very happy with it. Only thing i wished i did at the time was flooring but I guess its a make work project for another time. Also I ordered bolt on Jerry can mounts x4 (2 for water containers, 2 for fuel), bolt on Hi-jack mount, and Bolt on shovel attachment (had to do some modifying cause the shovel would rattle off the rack).

Had my LR loaded up fairly decent, its a luxury having the 40Ls of fresh water to clean all the cooking and camping gear..

Edit: Couple photos I have at the moment, rest to come off go pro this evening.. Of course the only two I have are meh..

Update: RED ROVER

Went back to school this last fall, so most of the projects have been put on hold until Im back into positive cash flow.

Funstuff:
-50" Straight LED light bar ~46,000lumin, spot
-PIAA super yellow fogs, able to score these for a couple bucks so figured why not
-Working on flooring for the rack,

Maintenance
-Moisture in my driver side floor area, have clean the drains, double checked all the water egress areas. Hoping it is just from all the snow.

Upcoming projects:
- Winch Bumper: ARB or Tactical Rovers (havent decided on which one to go with, after my close call.. which was still expensive I want to put some frontal armour on my LR, plus having a winch will make recoveries a bit easier)
-Tactical Rovers bumper & tire swing (265/65-18 fits underneath, but i dread the day i need it on a trail or somewhere with out my floor jack
-Sliders

I had a 50" Curve LED bar installed, but Bambis dad really wanted a ride so it is no longer... Needless to say, new hood and light bar and things are back to normal. The new 50" is a Spot, and in my words id say its like a lazer beam for light out put, The Curve was nice for that it literally flooded everything at the front end of the truck, however the reflection off the hood was horrific, but manageable.

I have yet to get a good picture of the output.. usually next to impossible to with iphone camera. Here is the difference between the chipsets of the two bars. Top one is some ebay one compared to Glare LED (canadian manufacture, dollar is hurting to go south for any goodies). Also the 50" Curve whistled pretty bad, music was a must to drown it out. With the straight bar zero whistle.
