Re: Blowdown pass on Saturday June 27th
Yes, it will be a joint Rover-Lander and Land Rover of Richmond Wheels Event on Saturday 27th June
The Wheels Event will be a one day trip on the Saturday... a few of us are considering staying up there if the weather is good and coming back on Sunday.
More information coming soon..... book the day off with the "Boss" now!

Re: Blowdown pass on Saturday June 27th
OK, some more details on the Land Rover Wheels Event coming up on the weekend;
Blow Down Pass Peak 6500ft – near Duffey Lake - Saturday June 27th 2015
09:00am – Meet at Squamish Tim Horton’s on Progress Way, Squamish. (there are two Tim Horton’s in Squamish to make note this is the one on Progress Way- cross street Industrial Way, beside H-way 99).
09:30am – Departing Squamish, heading up the Sea to Sky highway through Whistler Village
10.30am – 10 min stop at the Petro Canada Gas station in Pemberton. (last chance for fuel or supplies).
11:30am – Turn off the Highway #99 at Duffey Lake onto the Blow Down Pass Forest Service Road.
1.00pm – Arrive at the top of Blowdown Pass at 6500ft for lunch looking over the scenic Stein Valley and Blowdown Lake. 1.5hrs for lunch and explore the peak.
2.30pm – Depart the top of the Pass heading back to the highway at Duffey Lake.
3.30pm – Back on the highway, heading down towards Whistler
5.30pm – Arrive back at Squamish
6.00pm – Arrive back in North Vancouver.
A packed Lunch should be brought along or picked up when at Tim Horton’s in Squamish.
A reminder for all that this is back country wilderness, there are no amenity’s once we leave Pemberton so everything that is needed for the day should be brought along.
Some suggestions – Camera / Sunglasses / Binoculars / Folding Chair / Warm Jacket / Drinking Water / Good walking shoes (no flip-flops).
This is a joint run that the Rover-Landers do along side Land Rover of Richmond, so expect to see some newer Land Rovers along (sorry Land Rover's only on this run).
We may have to limit numbers if the group gets too large, let us know in advance if you are coming along.
Cheers,
Andy

Re: Blowdown pass on June 27th
Looks like a good group shaping up. :D :D The more the merrier. We need to get the average age of all the Land Rovers on the trip up to at least 6 months!

... as there's some new Rover's that will be there, I'll bring my vehicle wrap incase anyone wants to avoid pinstriping!

Re: Blowdown pass on June 27th
As mentioned in the first post, although the main group will be heading back to Vancouver on Saturday afternoon a few us will be staying in the Blowdown valley, camping out overnight. If you want to extend your stay, feel free to join us camping on Saturday night, heading back home on Sunday.
Remember to bring along everything you need for wilderness camping. Even though it could be 30 degs in the day, remember it can get cold at night.
cheers,
Andy

Re: Blowdown pass on June 27th
Post Trip report ...
We had a 21 Land Rover convoy by the time we passed through Pemberton, the weather was hot and sunny.
Approx half were from the Rover-Landers and half were from Land Rover of Richmond. The vehicle age spread was from 1988 to 2015. When arriving at the top of Blowdown Pass at 2100m we were treated to a cool breeze and pockets of snow.
Once we were all parked at the top, time was spent having lunch, enjoying the amazing views, making snowmen, exploring the peaks and general Land Rover chit-chat.
Most Land Rovers heading back down around 4pm and headed for home. A few of us returned to the summit and camped out until Sunday.
Excellent group, everyone had a positive attitude and most were more than impressed with the heights their Land Rover (new and old) were able to take them...
Cheers, Andy

Beautiful pics! Great to see everyone enjoying the cool weather. The weather was extremely hot for us at the NW Overland Rally this weekend.

It looks like those new models are using tires best suited to West Vancouver. Any issues with them?

Re: Blowdown pass on June 27th
No, not much.
They couldn't air down as they had very little sidewall to start with.
A Range Rover Sport got a flat tyre, but I don't know if it anything to do with the tyre or if it was just a sharp rock that could have gotten anyone.
Actually, with all the traction control aids, the cars walked up the nastiest bits without any problems at all. Quite impressive.
