Anyone know the size of jerry cans that fit in the side storage compartments on a D110?

Gord,

Nice pic! But that tin looks like a 5gal can. I've got some 5gal cans as used by the Cdn Forces and for sure they won't fit in the side stowage spots (you know, the ones with the doors). Is it a 10ltr (2gal) can I'm looking for?

Cheers

Gord,

Thanks for clarifying that. Have been wondering. I'll try my old metal Cdn Forces ones to see what the fit like.

The old US style screw top cans are not a good choice for use in the 110 storage lockers... get the Brit/Nato cans, Canadian tire now sells new ones if you have trouble finding them.

Do the plastic ones fit? I think they're the same size. I got 5 of them used, but in great shape for $100 at Broadway Surplus. I can confirm that they hold up to huge amounts of abuse as I ended up crushing one Jerry can (full) under a couple of logs that fell onto my roof.

I've never tried the plastic military ones in the 110 lockers but they tended to be a problem in the holders on the Canadian military trucks when I used to use them there. They can swell up like enough that you can't get them out of their holders on a hot day.

I do get a bit of swelling, but perhaps a half inch total expansion on a really hot day sitting out in the sun. In a closed locker, this would not as likely be a big issue.

Why would the old metal screw topers be a poor choice? Been using them every where else for 30 years. Is it the fit?

It has been my experence that the screw top cans tend to leak when on their sides. If you have good ones then they might be ok. I'm not sure if they fit or not.

Can they leak

Ah. Hm. Is that how they fit in there? Yes my old metal can WILL leak if on their sides. They leaked when they were upright too! Always wondered about those narrow necked things. Now I know.

Yes, the cans lay on their sides in the 110 lockers. I've found the Brit/German style cans to work very well and not leak.
